Positive methods of discipline

Physical discipline of any kind is not permitted while using Otter. Instead we encourage positive forms of discipline implemented in discussion with the family with whom you are working. For example:

  • redirecting behavior toward a constructive activity
  • removing the child from the source of conflict
  • setting clear expectations about behavior and issuing a warning before any loss of privileges
  • enforcing “natural and logical consequences” (i.e. if a child misuses a toy, the toy will be taken away)
